A new chapter for Transnational Giving Europe

We have something big to share!

After months of careful planning and collaboration, we are thrilled to announce a major shift for Transnational Giving Europe (TGE). Since its inception in 1995, TGE has been generously hosted and coordinated by the King Baudouin Foundation (KBF). Today, we are excited to share that the coordination of TGE will now be taken over by Philea (Philanthropy Europe Association).

 Why This Matters

TGE’s mission has always been clear: to make cross-border giving in Europe easy, effective, and tax-efficient. We currently operate across 19 European countries:  Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK, with the goal of eventually reaching all European countries. Since 1995, TGE has facilitated over €200 million in cross-border donations. But while we have achieved a lot, there is still so much more to do.

Time for Growth and New Opportunities

TGE partners have increasingly felt that new opportunities, and urgent needs, are emerging for philanthropy in Europe. From responding to crises and disasters, to navigating growing legal and policy pressures on civil society, it is clear that cross-border giving must evolve to meet the moment.

 Why Philea?

Philea is the largest membership body for philanthropy in Europe. With deep expertise, strong partnerships, and a shared vision for the future of European giving, Philea is uniquely positioned to help TGE grow. The organization already works to overcome the legal, fiscal, and administrative barriers that foundations face when operating across borders. Their advocacy for a Single Market for Philanthropy, where cross-border donations can flow freely, aligns perfectly with TGE’s mission.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the King Baudouin Foundation, whose stewardship since 1995 has been instrumental in building TGE into the strong, impactful network it is today. Their support has laid the foundation for this exciting transition and the opportunities that lie ahead.

We are excited about what is ahead, and more committed than ever to building a Europe where generosity crosses every border.
