Alastair Shooting Star Fund
The Alastair Shooting Star Fund was established by his family to honor the memory of Alastair, who left us far too soon.
Below is a letter from his siblings Oscar and Olivia and their mother Juliana, introducing who Alastair was and the purpose of the Donor-Advised Fund established in his memory:
Our beloved Alastair gave us twenty years of his wonderful, bright, deeply interesting and complex life. Born a twin in February, he took his own life in December, twenty years later. As sensitive and conscientious as he was – always considerate of others and engaged with the world - there came a point when the weight he was carrying became too much to bear.
His friends continue to visit us and write to us, sharing their memories of Alastair, and those memories paint a picture entirely true to who he always was: brilliant, responsible, kind, and ready to show up for the people he loved. We hope that he is now at peace, surrounded by kindred angels.
To honor his life and his gifts, we have established the Alastair Shooting Star Fund at Fondo Filantropico Italiano, with the goal of helping young people in need access private support services that are not within everyone's reach.
We support Progetto Itaca, a Foundation that runs programs for people living with mental health conditions and their families; Dynamo Camp, which supports children with serious or chronic illnesses and their families; and Yes We Can Clinic, an extraordinary program that allowed Alastair to form deep and meaningful connections and to grow immensely in the final years of his life.
We are therefore asking two things of you: a personal contribution, to the best of your financial abilities, and your help in multiplying that investment and our commitment - through foundations, associations, companies or any other organization that can support this project and make costly support programs accessible to those with limited financial means.
